Zelensky Proposes Meeting Putin in Turkey, Demands Immediate Ceasefire
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Turkey on Thursday, contingent upon Russia agreeing to a full and unconditional ceasefire. Zelensky emphasized that halting the violence is essential for meaningful diplomatic discussions.
Despite international calls for a 30-day truce, Russia has rejected the proposal, opting instead for continued military actions, including drone attacks on Ukrainian territory.
The proposed meeting in Istanbul would mark the first direct talks between the two leaders since March 2022. While Russia has signaled openness to negotiations, it has not confirmed Putin’s attendance.
International figures, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV, have urged both parties to pursue peace. Pope Leo XIV has called for a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine, expressing concerns over the escalating conflict.
As the war enters its third year, the international community watches closely, hoping that these developments may lead to a resolution of the ongoing conflict.
