President Trump Downplays Signal Messaging App Security Breach as Minor ‘Glitch’

Trump downplays national security team texting military operation plan on Signal as a minor ‘glitch’

President Donald Trump has characterized a recent security breach involving the Signal messaging app as a minor “glitch.” The incident occurred when National Security Adviser Mike Waltz inadvertently added journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to a group chat discussing sensitive military operations against Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The group included high-ranking officials such as Vice President J.D. Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The use of Signal, an encrypted but unclassified platform, for such discussions has drawn sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers, who have called for investigations and potential resignations. Allied nations have also expressed concern over the breach, questioning the security of shared intelligence and joint operations. Despite the backlash, Trump and his administration have downplayed the severity of the incident, maintaining that no classified information was compromised.
