U.S. Imposes Trade Restrictions on Firms Supporting Iran, Pakistan, and Russia

The United States has imposed trade restrictions on over two dozen companies for their alleged involvement in supporting Iran and Pakistan’s weapons and drone programs, as well as aiding Russia’s military activities in Ukraine. The U.S. Department of Commerce added these entities to its trade blacklist, primarily targeting firms from Pakistan, China, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These restrictions will prevent them from acquiring U.S. goods and technologies without government authorization.

Nine Pakistani entities were blacklisted for allegedly acting as front companies and procurement agents for Pakistan’s cruise missile and strategic drone programs. Meanwhile, six Chinese companies were accused of acquiring U.S.-origin items to support China’s military modernization and Iran’s weapons programs. Additionally, three UAE-based firms and one Egyptian entity were sanctioned for attempting to evade trade restrictions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce for Industry and Security emphasized that national security remains a priority and that violations of U.S. trade controls will have serious consequences. These actions reflect ongoing efforts by the U.S. to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and maintain global stability.
